Founded in
1981, Pater Noster House is a 501 (C ) (3) Nonprofit Organization that is
now entering its 27th Year of Service to the People of Central
Ohio who are infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Since it
was founded, Pater Noster House has provided transitional housing to well
over 1000 clients. While that is a small number in
comparison to the larger HIV Community, it represents a significant impact
on the local HIV community. In out-sourced services to the HIV Community,
Pater Noster House has provided meals and other services to 2,500 people
living with HIV/AIDS.
A unique
facility, Pater Noster House is currently the only licensed Adult Group Home
in the seven counties that make up Central Ohio . With a
faltering economy, and many people with HIV/AIDS facing difficult choices
between housing, food and medication, the demand for our services is ever
increasing. The ability to pay for our services is never
a consideration for residency at Pater Noster House.
Pater
Noster House provides temporary, short term housing to people living with
HIV/AIDS who are experiencing homelessness. The mission
of Pater Noster House is two-fold:
First, our
objective is to empower our clients to reclaim their lives, restore broken
relationships, recover from addiction problems, refocus on living with
HIV/AIDS and to build healthy self esteem. Our goal for each resident is
independent living, if possible, in their own permanent housing.
Secondly,
for those who face serious illness or mortality we offer a peaceful, clean,
safe place with dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure the comfort, safety
and dignity of the person and family.
As part of
its empowerment policy, the Management of Pater Noster House has developed
several innovative programs for residents and those from the community who
face HIV-related concerns:
Positive P.E.E.R.S
(Prevention, Education Empowerment, Responsibility, Support)
Launched in
December 2004, this program was designed to educate newly diagnosed
individuals to HIV facts and news updates. Many of the
PEERS members serve as mentors for other people living with HIV/AIDS.
This program meets on a monthly basis and has been very successful.
Phillip’s Friends
Launched in
July, 2005, this is a bereavement support group for those who have lost a
loved one due to HIVAIDS related illnesses. This group meets monthly and
reaches out to all people, regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion
or disability.
Job Placement Services/Community Free Job List
Launched in
May, 2005, this program is a no cost job placement service that seeks to
find employment opportunities for interested clients.
Narcotics Anonymous Program
This
successful peer-led program called Hope on the Horizon meets
every Saturday at Noon at Pater Noster House. Refreshments are
provided by the staff.
We remain
committed to serving the people of Central Ohio .
